CROSS-BORDER

Cross-Border Freight, Handled by People Who Know the Border.

Cross-border freight

Crossing a border shouldn't mean chasing paperwork or guessing which carrier can run the lane.

The right paperwork. The right carrier. Across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Our experienced cross-border team works with you from first quote to final delivery. We help you prepare and check your documents, coordinate with customs brokers, and match your freight with carriers set up for the lane, so your shipment reaches the other side with fewer surprises.

One team. Three countries.

Every border has its own rules, forms, and systems. Our team knows how they fit together, so you deal with one group of people instead of a different party at every crossing.

  • Document review before your freight moves
  • Carriers matched to the lane, equipment, and freight type
  • Status updates through the crossing and on to delivery

Our cross-border team

United States ↔ Canada

Short transits, strict data.

  • Electronic manifests filed before arrival (ACE for the U.S., ACI eManifest for Canada)
  • PARS and PAPS pre-arrival release so customs can review before the truck arrives
  • USMCA / CUSMA origin documentation support
  • Carriers enrolled in trusted-trader programs such as FAST, where applicable

United States ↔ Mexico

Two customs systems, one coordinated move.

  • U.S. customs broker plus a Mexican customs agent (agente aduanal)
  • Carta Porte and pedimento requirements handled up front
  • Trailer interchange and border transfers planned in advance
  • Carriers with experience on Mexico border crossings

Canada ↔ Mexico

Through the U.S., with every leg aligned.

  • One team managing the full route
  • Transit documents planned for the U.S. leg

Visibility & communication

The paperwork, demystified.

These are the documents and filings we help you line up. Exactly what you need depends on your commodity, lane, and direction of travel.

Commercial invoice

Describes the goods, value, origin, and terms of sale. Customs uses it to assess duties and taxes.

Bill of lading

The contract and receipt between shipper and carrier. Its details must match the invoice.

Packing list

Itemized contents, weights, and dimensions, used for inspection and delivery checks.

USMCA / CUSMA origin

Supports reduced or zero duty for qualifying goods when origin is properly documented.

Electronic manifests

Advance cargo data filed before arrival: ACE in the U.S. and ACI eManifest in Canada.

PARS & PAPS

Pre-arrival release: PARS for Canada-bound and PAPS for U.S.-bound freight.

Carta Porte & pedimento

Mexico's transport document and customs declaration, filed with a Mexican customs agent.

Permits & special docs

FDA, USDA, and CFIA requirements, hazmat shipping papers, and other commodity rules.

Requirements vary by commodity and lane, and they change over time. This page is general information, not legal or customs advice. We confirm current rules with your customs broker before each move.

Cross-border questions, answered.

Do I need a customs broker?

In most cases, yes. Commercial shipments are typically cleared through a licensed customs broker in the destination country. We coordinate with your broker, or help you connect with one.

Who is the importer of record?

The importer of record is the party legally responsible for declaring the goods and paying duties and taxes in the destination country. Who that is depends on your terms of sale, so it is worth settling before the shipment moves.

What is USMCA / CUSMA?

It is the trade agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Qualifying goods can receive reduced or zero duty when their origin is properly documented.

Why do shipments sometimes change trucks at the border?

Depending on the lane and carrier authority, freight may be transferred between carriers near the border. This is common on U.S.-Mexico lanes. We plan the interchange ahead of time.

What causes border delays?

Missing or mismatched paperwork, incorrect values or classification, missing permits, and inspections. Clean, consistent documents are the best way to avoid them.

Do the rules change?

Yes. Tariffs, programs, and filing requirements change, so we confirm current requirements before each move.
